Welcome!

This is the homepage of the System Identification and Control Laboratory (SICL). The SICL is directed by Prof. R.A. de Callafon at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) within the Jacobs School of Engineering (JSOE) at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).

We are working hard to get our SICL webpages up and running, so please excuse our construction. Not all links are active (yet). However, we should be up and running by March 26, 2012.

Research and Applications

The SICL focuses on research topics that involve experiment based modeling via (non-linear) parameter estimation, (recursive) system identification for model approximation in robust control design and development of adaptive control and regulation algorithms. The SICL houses several experimental and data retention facilities on which newly developed (recursive and non-linear) model estimation techniques and adaptive control methods can be applied and implemented via (embedded) digital control systems. Applications include
  • structural damage detection problems
  • model or controller complexity reduction
  • non-linear state estimation for distributed sensor systems
  • (adaptive) feedback tuning in active noise control
  • vibration control for high precision data storage systems
  • aero(servo)elastic systems for flutter prediction and control

Location and Contact Information

The SICL can be found in room 303, Engineering Building II (EBU-2) on the campus of UCSD and can be reached by phone at +1.858-822 3457. In addition, the director Prof. R.A. de Callafon can be reached via email at callafon@ucsd.edu.

sFTP access

Resources located on the server of the SICL can be accessed via the secure File Transfer Protocol (sFTP). Anonymous sFTP to sicl.ucsd.edu allows access to resources and public downloadable data from the SICL, whereas users of the SICL can log in with their username and password via sFTP.
